EAST CLEVELAND, Ohio - East Cleveland police released body camera video of a Sunday afternoon shooting involving a man and two officers.
The video shows East Cleveland officers responding to an incident. A man enters the frame and throws at T-shirt at a patrol SUV. The officer's camera catches a glimpse of a woman lying on the pavement near the sidewalk and screaming for help, as officers got out of the SUV.
The shirtless man immediately approaches the officer as he gets out the SUV and the officer fired a single shot. The man fell to the ground but go back up and went after another officer. The video shows several officers struggling to subdue the man on the sidewalk, as they tried to handcuff him.
The officer told other officers at the scene that he shot the man once in the stomach.
Officials released the body cam video to cleveland.com Monday morning.
East Cleveland police officers initially responded about 1:30 p.m. to a report of "an altercation" in the street between a man and a woman, Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation spokeswoman Jill Del Greco said. Officers found two people fighting in the street when they arrived, and BCI is now working to determine exactly what happened between the man and police.
Officials were still investigating if the officers applied any aid to the shot man, she said.
A gun was recovered from the scene, Del Greco said.
Investigators said both officers were hurt in the struggle with the man and were taken to University Hospitals for treatment.
The officers' current conditions are not known, though Del Greco said their injuries do not appear to be life-threatening.
The BCI will be investigating the shooting.
