Two men were arrested after a suspect attempted to disarm a police officer during a routine traffic stop Friday on the Fond du Lac Indian Reservation, authorities said.

The Fond du Lac Police Department on Monday released a squad car video of the incident, which occurred at about 7 p.m. on the 2500 block of Big Lake Road near Cloquet.

Police Chief Jeremy Ojibway said the car was pulled over for driving without headlights. When approached by officers, the suspects became uncooperative and would not give their names, he said.

The video shows the driver partially exiting the car through the window before beginning to struggle with three officers on the scene. During the scuffle, the passenger appeared to reach through the back window and briefly grasp an officer's gun, but was unable to remove it from its holster.

Officers were able to subdue both suspects; no injuries were reported.

Ojibway said a knife was found in the driver's possession, and a BB gun and pepper spray were also found in the car. He added that narcotic use appeared to be a factor.

The two men were arrested and taken to the Carlton County Jail. They have not been formally charged.
