How a Mercedes-Benz M-Class Carjacking Takes Place in South Africa

In case it wasn't common knowledge by now, you might want to know that the Republic of South Africa still has one of the highest crime rates on the planet, despite the fact that it has been in a continuous reduction since the late 1990s and early 2000s.

Since this is a car site, we're mainly interested in the automotive-related crimes, where South Africa is one again one of the most dangerous countries in the world when it comes to armed carjacking, with the local authorities even installing roadsigns in certain areas that are predisposed to these types of acts.

The following video shows how can an average carjacking attempt take place in broad daylight, with the images having been caught by a building security camera.

A previous generation Mercedes-Benz M-Class facelift seems to stop on the side of a road for no apparent reasons, while another M-Class W164 almost immediately cuts him off. A passenger with a gun exits the rear and threatens the driver of the first M-Class, who instantly storms away in reverse.

The video doesn't show what happens afterwards, but we can assume that the carjacking thugs went after the car to finish the job.

By coincidence, it seems that both the victim and the bandits were driving the same type of car, making us conclude that the bad guys were probably on a Grand Theft Auto-like Mercedes-Benz M-Class collecting spree.

Either way, if you ever find yourself driving around Pretoria, where the footage below comes from, always double check the areas where you want to slow down or stop your car, because this may happen.
