Orlando police release body cam video of officer-involved shooting

ORLANDO, Fla. (KABC) -- A police body camera video shows the dramatic circumstances leading up to an officer-involved shooting in Orlando, Florida.

The incident occurred on Jan. 16 as officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a white Dodge Charger, which was occupied by three suspects.

The officers exited their vehicle and began telling the driver to get out, at which point the driver began reversing in an attempt to flee from the officers.

The suspect, 17-year-old Trevon A. Lamons, continued to advance forward, nearly striking one of the officers. That's when Orlando police Officer Jonathan Mills fired his weapon, striking Lamons.

He fled the scene but then crashed into a nearby vacant home. He was arrested and transported to a local hospital in stable condition.

Police say the vehicle had been reported stolen. Lamons had three prior felony arrests on his record, including vehicle theft and burglary.

Mills was not injured and is now on paid administrative leave while the Florida Department of Law Enforcement investigates the shooting.

He has been employed with the Orlando Police Department since 2010.
