Houston Store Employee Shoots Robber Dead

A would-be robber was fatally shot by a Houston convenience store employee Sept. 12.

Usman Seth, 20, who moved to the area from New York three years ago, said that a robber came into his family's store demanding money. He said the suspect pointed a shotgun at his sister.

After his father passed him a handgun, Seth said he was compelled to act.

"I was worried about my sister and my dad's life. That was the main thing on my mind. I've got to save them," Seth told KPRC.

According to the Houston Chronicle, Seth began firing and shot the robber in the leg. The robber shot back, but Seth kept firing at him.

Surveillance footage from the southeast Houston convenience store shows the gunman barge in, and captures Seth's deadly response.

"I kept warning him, drop your gun, but he was not listening. He tried to shoot us and I had to shoot back," Seth told KHOU.

Responders said the suspect was dead when they arrived.

Seth said the gunman was a young Hispanic man who had been in the store earlier that evening. Seth's father, who has the same name as his son, told the Chronicle that the robber's brother has since been in the store, and threatened to kill the family.

"We are continuously getting threats from them," he told the paper.

Police said the case will go before a grand jury.
