NYPD releases video of cops shooting man who claimed he had gun

The NYPD on Wednesday released surveillance-camera footage of Tuesday night’s police-involved shooting in a Harlem public housing building that seems to corroborate cops account of the incident.

The video shows Michael Cordero, 34, get shot once in the hip after pointing what turned out to be a wallet at officers responding to a 911 call of a man with a gun inside the A. Philip Randolph Houses on 114th Street in Harlem.

The clip, which does not include audio, begins with Cordero walking down the hall with his hands in his pockets when police say they ordered him to take them out.

“What do you mean take my hands out of my pocket?” he responded, according to cops. “What the F do you mean? I’ve got a gun.”

Cordero is then seen reaching into his pocket and pulling out a dark object later identified as a wallet. He then runs his hand along the top in a motion similar to racking the slide on a pistol.

That prompted an officer to fire three shots, striking Cordero once.

The clip ends just as Cordero appears to take a bullet to the leg.

The officer has been with the department for 2 1/2 years, and it was his first time discharging the gun in the line of duty, according to police.

Cops said there was also body camera video but did not make it available Wednesday. Police did not respond to Post requests for the body camera footage.
