Alexander Brown's luck is extraordinary. He survived two gunshots and escaped a 15 year prison sentence.

DEERFIELD BEACH, Fla. - A Robbery attempt was foiled after a store clerk shot an alleged thief as he was held at gunpoint. The suspect was shot once in the face as he ran toward the store clerk with a loaded gun pointed at the man's head. The suspect was shot a second time when he tried to get back up.

The incident originally occurred at the Snappy Convenience Store, located at 115 South East 10th Street on Friday March 5th 2010.

Store clerk Samir Al-Madi, 25, told Broward's Sheriff's Office robbery detectives he was on the telephone when he saw a hooded man approaching the store.

According to the Broward County Sheriff's Office, when the suspect, 24-year-old Alexander Brown, pulled out his gun on Al-Madi, Al-Madi reached for a gun and shot Brown in the jaw. Freddy Al-Madi, owner of the convenience store and father of the clerk, said, "He walked in and he tried to kill him. He did not come in here just to rob. The guy was ready. The gun was ready."

When Brown tried to get up after being shot at point-blank range in the face Al-Madi felt threatened once again and shot Brown again.

After the failed Robbery attempt Brown was taken to North Broward Medical Center where he fully recovered.

There were no customers in the store at the time of the attempted robbery.

nmate# L50087 Alexander BrownAfter being released from the hospital the Broward County Sheriff's Office charged Alexander Brown with with Armed Robbery, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon and Possession of an Altered Firearm.

To put Mr. Brown's life in context, he was released from state prison in 2009 for Burglary and Cocaine Possession. Mr. Brown has been convicted of Possession of Cocaine and Burglary repeatedly. These multiple comvictions for cocaine and theft began in 2003. However, Brown he never spent more than one year and one week in prison at a time up right until his botched Robbery attempt in 2010.

This cannot be under-stated: this dangerous crack addict, willing to rob and kill if necessary never spent any serious time in prison although his crimes were enough to earn him serious prison time up until this incident.

The most shocking part of this story is that Brown was sentenced to 15 years for Burglary in 2008 but was let out of prison after serving 1 year and 1 week. Brown was released from prison March 16th 2009. Less than one year after his early release from jail, and having escaped 14 years of his original sentence, Mr. Brown decided to rob and even murder a quickie mart clerk for money to buy cocaine.

In May of 2012, Brown was sentenced to 30 years. He is currently serving this sentence at Charlotte Correctional Institution in Punta Gorda, Florida.
