2nd arrest made months after shots fired inside Colerain Twp bank

HAMILTON COUNTY, OH (FOX19) - In May, shots were fired during a Colerain Township bank robbery. This week, a second arrest was made in the case.

Malcolm Jones was wanted by the FBI for conspiracy to use a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence, armed bank robbery, and use of a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence. He was arrested Tuesday in Cleves.

During the incident, off-duty Mount St. Joseph University police officer Carl Rauschenberger drew his weapon when he encountered two men inside a Springdale Road Key Bank. Malcolm Jones has been accused of shooting at Rauschenberger, prompting him to return fire.

The two men fled the scene after the shots were fired. There were no injuries to the police officer, the customers in the bank, or any bank employees.

Nelson Jones was arrested after the incident. He and Malcolm Jones have since been indicted on federal charges including armed bank robbery.

Rauschenberger won't be facing charges.

Hamilton County Prosecutor Joe Deters said he spoke with the officer earlier this year.

"He told me that Key Bank called him and told him that they no longer wanted his business because he had traumatized the bank customers and employees," Deters said.

Key Bank disputes that claim.

"There appears to have been a misunderstanding, and we apologize for any confusion," the company said in a statement earlier this year. "To be clear, at no time did we ask this client to end his relationship with KeyBank and we will contact him to discuss his concerns."
