A state and county investigation into the deadly police shooting of Robin Blaylock is now complete. Iowa County Attorney Tim McMeen tells CBS2/FOX28 News that after reviewing all the evidence, he determined that Williamsburg Police Officer Blake Heller was justified in his shooting of Blaylock.

The report released Tuesday says evidence confirmed that Blaylock pointed a gun at officers at least twice before Officer Heller opened fire. Blaylock was also seen in body cam footage ignoring the requests of officers to put the weapon down. McMeen says officers could have feared for their own safety multiple times before finally pulling the trigger to end the tense standoff.

Iowa Code defines reasonable force as that force and no more which a reasonable person, in similar circumstances, would judge to be necessary to prevent an injury or loss and can include deadly force if it is reasonable to believe that such force is necessary to avoid injury or risk to one’s life or safety or the life or safety of another, or it is reasonable to believe that such force is necessary to resist a like force or threat.
