A man who is accused of shooting and injuring a Clovis police officer Monday night is now behind bars.

According to the Clovis Police Department, officers were sent to the Lindsey Law Office in reference to 34-year-old Anthony Baca, who was wanted on an outstanding felony arrest warrant for Assault with Intent to Commit a Violent Felony on a Peace Officer. The incident with the officer happened on Monday, Aug. 29, when an officer pulled Baca over on his bicycle and while trying to make the arrest, Baca fled on foot, eventually pulling out a gun and shooting the officer in the thigh.

When officers arrived at the law office, they contacted Baca and took him into custody without incident.

CPD said, "The peaceful end to this search was only possible because of a coordinated effort involving multiple members of the community, the Baca family, the Lindsey Law Office, the 9th Judicial District Attorney’s Office, the New Mexico State Police, the Curry County Sheriff’s Office, the Roosevelt County Sheriff’s Office, the Santa Rosa Police Department, the Portales Police Department, and the Clovis Police Department."

Baca was taken to the Curry County Jail. His arrest warrant for the assault holds a cash-only bond of $75,000. He was also served warrants for Failure to Appear with a $40,000 cash-only bond, District Court Violation of Conditions of Release on a hold without bond and District Court Failure to Appear for Pre-Trial with a $5,000 cash bond.
