NORTH MIAMI, FLA. (WSVN) - Police are asking for help finding the man who tackled, shot and robbed a victim who was filling up his car at a North Miami gas station, in August.
Surveillance video footage shows 20-year-old Jonathan Barahona filling up his car around midnight, Aug. 18, when a man approached him and tackled him to the ground.
“He comes, and he pushed me to the ground. He’s like, ‘Give me the phone,'” Barahona said.
The video was shot at the gas station off Northwest 137th Street and Seventh Avenue. After taking his belongings, the culprit shot Barahona in the leg.
“After that, he comes and shot me. After he takes the watch and he takes the phone, he shot me. He probably thought that I got shot somewhere else ’cause he left running, he thought I was gonna die,” Barahona said. “I screamed. I was like, ‘Lord, please help me’ because, you know, I can die anytime.”
Barahona has a scar on the back of his left leg where the bullet grazed him.
“Anything could’ve happened,” North Miami Police officer Brigette Pace said. “He could’ve been shot in the chest. We’re lucky he was only shot in the leg.”
Barahona could be seen in the video limping back to his car after the shooting, clutching his leg. Fire Rescue checked him out, and he was OK.
“I screamed. I thought I was gonna be dead, or I was not gonna walk, or you know, something like that,” Barahona said.
Pace had a clear message for the robber.
“The message to the bad guy is this: The North Miami Police Department, we’re diligently working on this and we’re going to find you,” Pace said.
