WARNING GRAPHIC VIDEO: Deputy shoots, kills ax-wielding woman in Middle Tennessee

(WZTV) -- #BREAKING from the Gallatin Police Department shows events as they unfold in an officer involved shooting on Wednesday. The woman has since died.

Authorities in Tennessee say an officer fatally shot a woman who attacked with a medieval-style ax.

Laronda Sweatt, 40, of Gallatin, Tennessee, became combative when Sumner County sheriff's deputy Gary Pickard accompanied housing authorities to serve an eviction notice on her Wednesday.

Gallatin police said in a news release it sent several officers when Pickard requested help. Sweatt then threatened Gallatin Officer James Spray with the ax and Spray shot her. Officers immediately began medical treatment on Sweatt, who later was pronounced dead at a hospital.

BREAKING UPDATE (12:02pm)--The woman shot by a deputy this morning has died.

It is unclear at this time the current condition of the deputy who was attacked. TBI says the deputy was able to call for backup.

UPDATE (10:50am)--The TBI reports one of the officers on the scene was injured and a female subject was shot. According to a neighbor, the deputy showed up to the woman's home to serve an eviction notice when she resisted arrest.

GALLATIN, Tenn.--Police are on the scene of a shooting at Bells & Chaffin Court.

The call was reported just before 9:20 this morning. The Sumner County Sheriff's Office, Gallatin Police and Fire Department are all on scene. The TBI has also been requested to the scene.

According to the Sumner County Sheriff's office a Deputy was serving an eviction notice when the shooting occurred. Multiple injuries have been reported.
