HAMMOND, Ind.– The FBI is working with Hammond Police to find the robber who shot and killed a 7-Eleven clerk on Wednesday. The clerk’s family understandably emotional today after authorities released the surveillance video.

A little before 4:30 Wednesday morning a robber wearing a giant wig points a gun at 7-Eleven clerk Roger Unton.

Police say Unton pushes a panic alarm button, which makes the robber furious.

Then, the man opens fire and runs.

Roger Unton, 60-years-old, a longtime convenience store employee, is pronounced dead at the hospital.

Hammond police say they discovered a wig near the scene which was sent to Indiana State Police for DNA analysis.

The Unton family says Roger was part of a corporate takeover of the store to improve it.

7-Eleven is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.

The family spoke out Friday. They are devastated. They hope that somebody recognizes the man on the video or that the robber turns himself in.

The family watched the surveillance video for the first time Friday.

Roger Unton’s wife, Patti said “It was very painful to see somebody come in and have no regard for life. That man had every intention of killing him or wounding him.”

Rebecca Van Auken, Unton’s niece, said “That 7-Eleven clerk was my uncle. And he had all these people who really loved him and cared about him.  It should be about the reward money it should be about the family that has to suffer without him.”

The Hammond Police Chief called this an “execution by an animalistic predator.”
