'He come again, I do the same,' clerk says after shooting armed robber

HARRISBURG - A 19-year-old clerk who shot an armed robber in his mother's corner store in Allison Hill Wednesday night said the incident hasn't made him skittish.

If an armed suspect tried to rob the store again, Daneurys Santo said he wouldn't hesitate to pull the trigger again.

"He come again, I do the same," Santo said from behind the counter of Madera Bros. Mini Market at 19th and Park Streets Friday afternoon.

As Santo was ringing up a customer, a masked male entered the store and demanded money from him at gunpoint at about 8:40 p.m., police said. Santo, whose mother also was also in the store, said the suspect first told him to hand over cash in English. He then said the same thing in Spanish, he said.

That's when Santo grabbed a shotgun he had hidden below the counter and fired a round into the suspect. The suspect, described as a black male who is about 6 feet tall, ran out of the store after he was struck.

Police had responded to a hold-up alarm at the store, and when they arrived, they found a small blood trail inside the store.

The stores surveillance cameras caught the robbery/shooting. Santo shared footage of the incident with PennLive, which can be viewed at the top of this story.

It marked the second time the store had been robbed since it opened less than a year ago, Santo said.

During the first incident, Santo's mother was behind the counter and the suspect stole $600 from the store. Wednesday night, the robber left empty handed.

The incident marked the first of two shootings to occur within less than two hours in the city Wednesday night.

As police investigated at the store, gunfire erupted blocks away.

When emergency crews arrived, they found a silver car had crashed head-on into a tree at North 17th and York streets.

One of two male occupants was lying unresponsive on the ground next to the car. The 26-year-old had been shot and several people were giving him CPR as police arrived.

He was rushed to Hershey Medical Center, where he was listed in critical condition.

The other occupant was found standing near the car. He suffered facial injuries in the crash.

He told police they were driving when they suddenly heard multiple shots ring out. They attempted to flee and crashed into the tree.

Police have no suspect description at this time.
