Caught on Camera: Fontana Store Clerk Beaten During Robbery

Police were searching for two men who beat a convenience store clerk during an early morning robbery in Fontana that was caught on surveillance video.

The clerk was working alone about 3:30 a.m. Saturday at the 7-Eleven in the 16900 block of Sierra Lakes Parkway when one of two men jumped over the counter and began to punch him, the Fontana Police Department said in a news release.

While one robber was pummeling the clerk, the other grabbed cash from the register drawer. The video shows the clerk attempting to shield his head during the beating before he's knocked down to the ground.

The men then grab merchandise, including a pack of gum, before running off with an unknown amount of cash, police said.

Store customers expressed concern for the clerk after hearing of the attack and robbery.

"This guy's been on break for days because of the tragic event, I can't imagine the shock of that," Steve Lore said.

Both robbers were described as black men in their early- to mid-20s, police said. One was about 5 foot 10 inches tall, weighing about 150 pounds and wearing a red and black striped shirt and dark pants. The other was wearing a light gray shirt, dark shorts and a white fisherman's hat.

Anyone with information was asked to call Fontana police.
